BANGLA SCHOOL OF MUSIC
BANGLA SCHOOL OF MUSIC is the project of renowned Bengali musician Akram Hossain and was established in 1996 to celebrate the power of music to pass on and preserve the richness of Bangla music and language to new generations, particularly diasporic Bengali communities in Southeast Michigan and those outside of the Bengali community who want to learn about this glorious tradition. Music has the power express love, fear, happiness, sadness, and many more feelings. When this creation depicts a community’s culture it becomes their identity to the rest of the world. Bangla School of Music has a very special curriculum for kids and youth. We take pride in teaching Bengali culture to our next generation in abroad. In addition to weekly low- and no-cost music classes in singing, harmonium, slide guitar and Bengali language, BSM organizes many cultural programs throughout the year, both at Play House and at cultural centers throughout Southeast Michigan. They have been artists-in-residence and programmers at Play House since 2013. banglaschoolofmusic.org
