We’re excited to announce the first event of our new monthly-ish series of performance films at Play House! 

On January 11th, join arts writer and curator Matthew Piper for a free screening of the 2012 film of Einstein on the Beach, Philip Glass and Robert Wilson's visionary 1976 opera. 

A towering landmark of American performance and an enduring artistic statement by Glass, Wilson, and choreographer Lucinda Childs, Einstein on the Beach is a beautiful and deeply mysterious meditation on the effects of science and technology on language, history, and American identity which unfolds over the course of four and a half ecstatic hours. Don Kent's revelatory film documents and presents in full Einstein's celebrated 2012 revival, starring Helga Davis and Kate Moran, bringing this rarely performed historical work into brilliant contemporary focus. 

The film will be presented with a brief intermission. You might want to bring a cushion for your chair!
