TACTILE TASTE OF BANGLATOWN

September 2015

An original “gastro-performance” commissioned from Carmen Wong that mades tangible – and edible – some of the rich and diverse food traditions that run through this unique pocket of Detroit, from fusion stews to found-object trellis systems to the perfect cup of tea. Part picnic, part playground, part pop-up kitchen, Tactile Taste of Banglatown celebrated meals gone by in homes far and near, exploring the multi-faceted identities coursing through the Banglatown neighborhood and the role of food and migration played in neighbors’s sense of identity.

A project of Power House Productions (PHP), Commissioned by the hinterlands (liza Bielby, Richard newman). photos by PHP.
